BUT YEAH ANYWAY SAN FRANCISCO. I’ve been living here for a while! Here’s how my old apartment looked like

While I complained-braggedtold everyone how my room was less than 100 square feet. I never minded the size. No. My previous comics would tell you that I avoided using the kitchen and the pee on the seats were unbearable.

Also the fact I had no internet. At all.
Also the fact I regret sticking my desk next to the window…I got the occasional “Eyes awkwardly meeting” but also:

But now I’ve moved four blocks to a newly remodeled apartment! I’m sharing it with Yolanda and Vi, who are super better illustrators than me.
So between all the moving back and forth hauling my mom and grandma had to endure with us (since my sister was also moving), we forgot to furnish some things.

Also, I pretty much transferred the second hand bookshelf and desk up to the apartment. While it’s compact (read: tiny) and sturdy, it’s not as cool as Vi’s, which has her collection of fanart/inspiring art she likes under a glass pane cover. After seeing such a nicer desk in comparison, I felt like I needed to spruce my desk up.

Also I watched Thor with my classmates during spring. I feel like storyboard has made me more aware of how shots are set up to have more meaning or induce us to feel a certain way.

I never seen Harry Potter 4 and 5, so I had a total “AHA!” moment in Order of Phoenix when Harry removes the Prophecy, and the shot is framed in such a way that Neville is standing right where the crystal ball was even though they never mention his connection to it.

Like the aftereffects of reading the sixth Harry Potter book. I’m riding on a fan buzz of it. I had a hardcore Snily spree until I reread the Prince’s Tale in the book (for reference in the first picture) and I was like, “Okay this wasn’t as romantic as I remembered it. In fact, it’s kind of creepy the way she writes how “hungry” he looks like.”

I also have a crush on Michael Fassbender after watching X Men: First Class but I feel like this would be a really awkward movie to watch with family.

I laughed at how utterly spoiled and immature-no I lied that wasn’t my first thought, STUPID she was, and then realized that every individual person probably thinks their problem is the biggest and most important thing in the world. I watch little children fight over toys in a playground, and how their parents blow it off. What makes their fights any different from a high school couple in a messy break up or grown ups fighting over their stakes in a will? To outsiders, it doesn’t concern them and the cause of it sometimes doesn’t even make sense. They wouldn’t read “Why were you out so late?” as an accusation of adultery or…

God I’m rambling. I really wanted to bitch about my own first world problem instead of going on and on about the hidden meanings in words.

I spent the past…oh, ten-twenty…maybe thirty minutes crying is utter rage and frustration at a text message my dad flippantly sent me. And now I’m sitting here, typing about how and why as if to rationalize my behavior to the world.
I guess it’s because I woke up angry already. Or more precisely, I woke up, I went to the communal bathroom, and sat on piss on the seat. Then I got pissed. Pun intended.

“lol u dumass y didn’t u look.” YEAH I KNOW RIGHT? You’d think that having two out of three toilets continuously covered in pee everyday and the fact that I waste a yard of my own toilet paper a week wiping the seats would condition me to check the seats. But I didn’t because I was excited to go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium today, where we had to leave at 8:30 sharp. On campus Animal Anatomy classes in the summer get the most field trips.
So I went back to my room feeling disgusted and angry at myself and at all the men who live on my floor. I don’t care if you leave the seats up, just put them up in the first place when you pee GEEZUS.
I guess the women also do it, I’ve been to women’s bathrooms and there’s pee on the seat there too.
Damn hoverers.

So anyway as I was going out the door, I picked up my laptop and DS and the charger, and dropped it off at my grandparents place on the way. My cousins have been staying there for the past two weeks and I also have been there every night to eat dinner with them. Although there’s no internet, there are movies they could watch, and the youngest is playing Pokemon White with the condition he can’t save the game, hence the charger.
(He doesn’t know where anything is so I had fun renaming his Pokemon.)

I probably should have bought a monthly Clipper pass on my card at the beginning of the month, but I’m still butthurt that all my 8 rides already expired and now I have -6.25 bucks on it because a Caltrain conductor told me otherwise. I’m tempted to just throw it away like all the otherpeoplefromBART seem to be doing and get a new one, but I have a feeling it was registered under my name when I questioned the negative balance.
But walking is probably the only reason I’m not that fat.
I think I went to the Monterey Bay before, but not the Aquarium. I spent more time not drawing and walking around looking at things than I normally do on field trips. It has fewer screaming kids than the Academy of Sciences and the Oakland Zoo, but that doesn’t make a difference in volume. Also we got to see a live albatross.

So we come back to San Francisco at 7 pm, and I’m late in joining my grandparents/cousins for dinner. Again.
It’s always embarrassing and guilt-trippy to come late and there’s a portion of rice still being warmed in the cooker and steamed fish reserved just for me, with the various other dishes still on the table. I don’t think I feel the proper amount of gratitude for this sometimes, and I definitely don’t show it.

After dinner I sat on and slapped my cousins around (they sit on and slap me too D: ) as we watch TV. My grandma took off her socks and the oldest cousin remarked in concern how swollen her ankles are. “Did you tell auntie (my mom)? You guys share the same doctor right?” My grandma replied the medication that was supposed to reduce the swelling hurt her knees so she stopped taking it, and that her ankles didn’t hurt anyway. Thinking that going over to massage them would be a dumb thing to do, I texted my mom about it, probably not very smart, considering I said: “waipo’s ankles are swollen they’re pretty huge also she told me not to tell you”.
So I guess my dad’s message shouldn’t have been so surprising.
When I went back to my apartment, I noticed he texted back a long time ago.
“Thanks for reporting the ankle problem, which must be caused by the workload of cooking for everyone.”
It’s interesting how anger subsides, as I don’t feel a surge of rage rereading this. It also probably doesn’t make sense why I got so angry over this statement, without some explanation.

You know,” My cousin said in English, “Grandma says you never visit them for dinner when we’re not around.”
I was surprised at that statement. “You mean they’re not bothered by me dropping by, eating, and then leaving in a hurry?”
“No. She actually likes it when you come over, even if it’s short.”

I’m well aware they’re taking the time and resources out of their life to feed me, but the way my dad has been insinuating for the past five months whenever I go eat with them I assumed that I was killing them every time I came over!

I’m tired of my dad guilt tripping me over eating over at my grandparents’ place. Yeah I’m over eighteen. I’m supposedly living on my own with your money. And I don’t know how to survive on twenty bucks of groceries for two weeks, even if it is Chinatown. You keep rubbing in how at eighteen some parents cut off their children and don’t pay for their college, and I should learn to cook for myself. I know how to cook for myself. I probably could find the time to cook for myself, if I didn’t have to walk everywhere and finish my two online classes before 8 pm, and I sit here in my room typing this rant on Microsoft Word Starter and thinking to myself, “godamn I have so much free time right now but the library doesn’t open until 12 pm so I better go to the closest Starbucks tomorrow morning for wifi.” I might have shot myself in the foot, demanding three classes for the summer with no internet and not getting a monthly Clipper card, but that’ll be another thing you would complain about me if I did and didn’t: not being on track and wasting money for another semester and oh god why didn’t you get your driver’s license yet since you have to take public transportation, which would bring up a rant I rather not go into.

I’m too tired and not angry enough anymore to go on.

I realized I never posted my freshman crap. So now it’s here. But then I realized I didn’t post my high school senior stuff…And now I should stop because that’s REALLY bad.

From last year: messy 2-4 playthrough. Spoilers obviously. Since this is the complete case, you watch me express my nasty fangirly opinions about the characters and see how my drawings and hand writing deteriorate as I go on.
I also drew this before I actually played 2-4, so I totally forgot he actually waited at the courthouse and shot her at point blank with a pistol. Whoops.
And some sketches from my fall semester that I deemed pretty enough to put in. The last image is the first one in my spring journal, but I wanted to continue the water soluble pencils coloring.I also lost a handful of sketches and WIPs at this time on the computer because I was too lazy/dumb to convert them to psd files before my SAI trial ran out.

I was going to make a whiny “Mechs are OP” comic so you understand what’s going on (who the fuck gave them the ability to rush, teleport, fly, hammer arm, shoot flamethrowers and gattling guns and drills all before level 70.), but this wince inducing video made by Nexon itself should show you.

To prove how OP and badly nerfed they get. Hammer Arm is slashed by 200%.

I don’t hate Dual Blades because I’m a Shadower (although that is still a factor). I hate them because whenever I walked into the FM when they came out it was like:

I was going to write a long post about film and animation and how they relate to the audience but EH. More dumping.




I should have written down more of them, since I don’t remember them all.

I didn’t do any digital journal comics, they’re all one to three words on a piece of paper still. While I remember a few of them quite distinctively, like “elevator” “music no friend”, but I don’t remember why some of them were even funny like “food+credit” and “bones in broccoli” and “choking rib”.

This was handles to the best it could be considering we had less than a month to put it together. Durelle did a really good job on the sound and timing.

…As you can see my life hasn’t been very interesting. Although there have been some pleasant blips.

During the Nickelodeon Industry on Campus meeting, it was pretty depressing to find out they don’t hire 2d animators. All their 2d stuff gets sent overseas where it’s cheaper in Korea. And after trying out the “Lambert the Sheepish Lion” headturn, I realized I’m too freaking lazy to animate inbetweens. the 50ish frames of the sack was fun. The nine frames of Lambert turning his head was not. Obviously work is not supposed to be fun and games, but I seriously was demotivated doing the assignment; wondering if I should just switch to the vicious overpopulated market of storyboarding or character designing, or step up and learn how to color and light settings. I enjoy building things I want, I enjoy animating things I want, so I’m just being selfish when I say I don’t want to do it for someone else. It feels like I keep second guessing the decisions I make in my life every step of the way.
I realized I didn’t put up my terrible CAPS demo reel from last Spring.

I pretty much lived in the lab for four days straight building/tweaking/animating my own character for the final. Even when my group was seriously behind their own characters (ffs I had to do the storyboard in 30 minutes in front of the teacher guys!), I went ahead and designed the sets just BECAUSE I COULD and not necessarily for the grade. Once you get the hang of it, 3d modeling is basically like sculpting without getting your fingers dirty/dry/dusty. Plus the Undo button is probably the best digital art tool ever.
Relating to the third comic: My sister sent me this a while ago.

The first thing I thought when I saw this was “Wow this person really is bad at being consistent with drawing.”
Then “Holy crap did this person draw every frame in here?”
Then “Wow this is amazing.” and proceeded to look up her site.
There is an amazing jump from her first animation in 2005, to her current “Sweet Dreams” and “Bottle”

And then I stumbled upon CartoonBrew again in her news roll.
And this article made me realized I’m not as ambitious as I should be. I checked out every commenter’s webpage who put it out, and I realized that I don’t work, I don’t have a concise demo reel. And I have no job experience whatsoever. Internships are even more important in animation because the biggest hurdle is showing you have work experience in a group and getting your foot in the door (while an MPT major complained that an “internship” on movie/tv sets just means fetching things and observing without actually getting your hand in anything).

Now that the drama part is out of the way. I’ve drawn several comics/pictures before about the first/third/fourth/fifth games as I was playing them, but now I’m doing a running commentary on the second game because I’ve never shown it the love it deserves. Here’s a handful.

I actually had this weird glitch where when I’m the party leader, objects fly everywhere and every drop sinks to the floor before, but my party members at that time said they didn’t notice a thing. When I went with my guildmates, they immediately went, “WTF IS GOING ON??!” as huts were stapled to the ceiling and everything you could pick up would bounce to the sky or sink deep into the ground. Then my guild leader died and something interesting happened.

I think this is the only anime that is more consistent with the light novel than the manga AND that people consider the dub better than the original Japanese. Plus I hear everyone in that opening is considered a main character. Damn.

(I don’t know why but I imagine right now, Teresa, you are clawing your eyes out from this opening). I didn’t know there was an anime of this series until I was sitting next to my sister watching it with her. So far the subbed anime is ahead of the translated manga. It looks like every episode is one chapter, and you can tell they padded it if you compare, but it’s interesting padding, such as introducing us to the chauffeur and foreshadowing things that’ll happen. Their antics animated are even more hilarious, but sometimes even more cringe inducing. It reminds me of Ouran High School because of the EXCESS FLOWERS AND LUV.
Hourou Musuko

When I saw the stills when they announced it I was like “8| god that lighting on everyone’s hair and eyes is OVERKILL why couldn’t they kept the same style they did with Aoi Hana?”, now seeing it in motion it’s actually mimics the watercolor look of Shimura’s style along with the art style. Although I think the trailer is over dramatic, it’s nice (and surprising) to see that a series about transgender/sexuality is getting an anime.

You know this is actually my “first page” so this  is neat compared to how it’s going to turn out twenty pages from now You might have to click it to read my bad handwriting though.
The problem with scanning watercolors on my craptacular scanner is everything always looks washed out. While I edited them in photoshop, my other pages after this are all recently scanned. Even the blacks looks grayish.

This was…more of an ink test page than anything. FFS I don’t think I will ever buy Higgins ink again. Not only does it give uneven washes and line gradation, it seems to clog up my waterbrush pen when it dries or maybe that’s also the fault of the pen. But still, the Rapidograph ink is lusciously black with a dull lustrous sheen when you see it in real life. DURING THE 24 HOUR COMIC DAY EVENT hosted by AAU I had a conversation with someone about how we love super black and glossy inks (his friend got the ink from Taiwan so he doesn’t know what brand it is) and he showed me some amazing quality waterbrushes that held up a great amount of ink. I brought a Pentel Arts Pocket Brush specifically for this event but I was pretty pissed when I saw that it was technically one refill and they were only two inches long. In fact, after finishing my fourth page and my friend borrowing the brush because she wanted to fill in black, the ink ran out. I brought along the extra refill, but considering that the refills are expensive as hell for such tiny little things I just jammed the Rapidograph tip into the empty cartridge and assumed that since this is the same ink used for their technical pens then it won’t clog it. I’m not so sure if their inks are supposed to be able to trap a lot of air or if mine was just defective with a bunch of bubbles, but it squirts a little ink out and makes a mess. It’s still more cost efficient than buying and shipping the refills.
And plus I can’t deny that the small size is very convenient for inking on the go, despite it basically being an expensive waterbrush pen. And it was pretty much the brush I used to ink every panel, except the lettering.
BUT ANYWAY SHOW AND TELL.

I made this the day before the event to test how fast I could ink and color (and bullshit a page not knowing what the hell I was doing). I figured that I should stick to micron for lettering and not color to cut down on time. It was on 7×11 smooth bristol, since I knew that working smaller meant working faster.
That all went out the door when they gave us free 11×17 comic bristol with the and I excitedly decided to use it.

I don’t care if this is suddenly too much information. My roommate once asked me why I never act up when I’m on my period. While I do occasionally, the main reason is BECAUSE EVERYTHING INTERESTING OR GOOD HAPPENS ON IT. Going on vacation? PERIOD. Want to donate blood? PERIOD. Thanksgiving? PERIOD. Christmas, New Years, and your birthday? PERIOD. Two hours before 24 Hour Comic event starts? PERIOD.
*RAGE FACE GOES HERE*
Luckily I’m not the type of girl who get severe fevers and cramps from it. But once it hits, if I don’t eat healthily, I get a stomachache, if I don’t sleep, I get an intense headache.

Then I got a freaking stomachache after that one sip. BUT IT DIDN’T STOP ME. MY STUPIDITY IS THE STRONGEST! Or maybe the coffee was just that damn good. I think the fact that I shouldn’t drink it made it all the more appealing.
Eating food to cushion the blow helped though.

Comic wise, I planned a story in my head about a man who wakes up in a hospital ward at 12:01 am, and he is told by an elderly lady that his memory resets every 24 hours (hur hur get it). I spent the first hour trying to plan it out, but I gave up and decided to draw whatever came to mind. I literally had no idea what I was going to draw the next page, it was like an adventure for me! And then I tripped on page four and stumbled all the way down to seven where I hit a “THIS IS CRAP GODAMMIT” mode. I know 24 hour comics aren’t supposed to be epic masterpieces, but I was extremely unhappy with my storyline at that point and couldn’t think of anything to change it. So I started fiddling around with the 7×11 paper I wasn’t using.
Then I decided I wanted my doodles to be nice and black.
Not like it matters with this scanner.
I liked this one a lot but I already filled some color stuff with black.
By this point I figured I probably wasted time for one of two pages I could have done.
I sketched this but didn’t ink this during 24hcd while inking I remembered why
I walked around and saw someone made a comic with a monster with boobs. I thought that was awesome and decided to add two pairs on mine.
At this point I’m just doodling.

AND about an hour and a half before it ended I took photos of the comics on the wall with my cell phone. Unfortunately the BEST PICTURES got automatically resized when I tried sending them to my e-mail. I’m not happy about that -_-. But here’s a sample of the amount of work people put into it.

WELP I’m not getting back my comic until a week and a half later so TIME FOR MORE FANDOM RELATED DUMPING I SHOULD PUT ON dA AT SOME POINT.
I finished replaying the first Ace Attorney game. And by the end of case 1-5 there was two things I realized.
-I’ve gotten a lot fonder of Ema now that I don’t see her as Maya clone v2. She’s a sweet, book smart girl with absolutely no common sense or athletic ability but with a passion for science. TOO BAD FOR THE FOURTH GAME.
-I love Calisto, Lana, and Gant’s design mainly because they wear double breasted suits with lapels.
(SPOILERSPOILEREVERYTHINGSPOILERAFTERTHIS).
-…Despite all the rape jokes being designated to him, I think Gant is also frightening in the fact his motivation seems almost inhuman. Most villains are neurotic/crazy/hired, blinded by pride/greed/selfishness/revenge/fear of getting caught, or they kill in self defense. Von Karma found three unconscious people, and killed only Gregory in anger because of the petty reason he gave a penalty to his perfect record that day (although his 15 year old plan for Edgeworth is batshit insane). Gant found three unconscious people: The killer he was after, a prosecutor whom he worked with on the case, and his partner’s sister. He decides to kill the prosecutor, and pin the blame on his partner’s sister by arranging the crime scene to make it look like she killed him. Just because he knows his partner will ask for his help to rearrange the crime scene to make it look like the killer did it to protect her sister and he can blackmail her. And then you have to remember he didn’t scheme and plot this for weeks, he just stumbled upon it and went to work. And the judge says he used to be a fine upstanding investigator.
1-5 comics-that-pretty-much-happened.

I had to present the luminol fluid again to check that it wasn’t my imagination playing tricks on me.
It’s sort of messy BUT IN MY DEFENSE this journal is 5×8”. It’s roughly the same size as my previous journals but the landscape orientation still throws me off.

This is sort of related but not really. I was sad to see someone with an anti Klavier/Ema avatar and signature on court records, mostly because my strongest feelings to pairings I don’t like is apathy, and it changes if there’s good fanfiction of it.
And I realized Ema looks like Osgood. Or Osgood looks like her, especially the color scheme. Must be a scientist thing.
AND I TOLD MYSELF I WOULD POST THE PICTURES UP IN ORDER BUT NO lets put all of these Emas up together.

SUDDEN TRANSITION TO THE FIFTH GAME.

Man other than the Yatagarasu none of the other characters in the fifth game actually interested me. But then I saw adorable fanart of Palaeno going “Yay coupons \(^_^)/!” and him as a happy Coupon Butterfly Fairy, and two pictures of him partying in the Embassy, and countless other “^_^” pictures of him, I just had to draw him.
UNKNOWINGLY HARASSING MANNY OF COURSE.
I think being Secretary of Cohdopia and Babahl and basically doing your boss’s job and juggling a smuggling ring on the side and hoping no one found out you killed someone for about ten years would really stress the hell out of you. Then you have to deal with a boss like Palaeno.
